Orthodontics

Orthodontic treatments focus on straightening teeth and diminishing irregularities in the jaw. This could be due to appearance, lack of ease of cleaning, speech problems, a traumatic bite, gum damage or tooth wear. Dr. Joanne Tseng has a keen interest in orthodontic treatment for both children and adults. For children, assessment may be done for those between the ages of 7-9 when majority of the front adult teeth have erupted. This is to prevent severe cases from developing over time.

We provide a range of methods for straightening teeth and preventing orthodontic problem, including:

  • Appliances such as orthopaedic plates or palatal expanders – used while the child is still growing to make space for erupting teeth or correct jaw disharmony
  • Traditional braces – metal or porcelain brackets with 4-6 weekly adjustments to align teeth
  • Invisible braces – this includes Invisalign, clear plastic aligners

These methods are used to treat such as;

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crooked or misaligned teeth
  • Overbites, under bites or cross bites
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Unevenly spaced teeth

Straighter teeth are easier to clean as plaque-causing food particles are less likely to get trapped. This reduces the risk of tooth decay and other associated dental problems. Your breath is improved and there is also reduced risk of teeth wear. Final benefits include eliminated stress and pain of jaw joints and improved chewing functionality.   Our dental professionals can help discuss your options based on the individual situation.
