DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES

DENTAL CROWNS AND BRIDGES

Crowns

Dental crowns are fixed prosthetic restorations that are permanently cemented onto teeth that are broken, chipped, misaligned, or extremely decayed. It is shaped by the dentist and are used to protect weak teeth, restore broken teeth, prevent further damage to cracked teeth or support teeth that have large fillings. Crowns can be made of porcelain or metal alloy and can give the underlying weak tooth strength and longevity. Porcelain crowns are strong and aesthetically pleasing as they match the colour of your natural teeth, but metal alloy crowns are often fused with an outer porcelain layer to become tooth-coloured. Metal alloy crowns are used more regularly in the back-molar region where chewing and grinding occurs as they are hard and durable.

Bridges

Bridges are used to replace one or more missing teeth that have been extracted. It is made up of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap and a false tooth/teeth in between. These false teeth are made from gold, alloys, porcelain, or a combination of these materials, and these bridges are supported by natural teeth or implants.

Depending on your dental and medical history, X-ray examinations of your teeth and jaw and an oral examination, our dentists will recommend the best treatment for you.
